Mona Hatoum is an internationally renowned designer, known for her artistic imprint, which is realized in a long series of initiatives, including sculptures, photographs and works on paper. Over the years, his interest shifts towards the development of a language in which domestic and everyday objects are often transformed into extraneous, surreal meanings. The most used element in Mona Hatoum's creations is the keffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress, a powerful symbol of Palestine. The keffiyeh coincides both with a symbol of peace and closeness on the one hand, of rebellion and rupture on the other; two poles enclosed within the same geometric pattern. Also for the realization of the Illy Art Collection, our designer uses this element: she used an abstraction of the fishing net and olive leaf design of the Arab headdress, which is combined with hard work and interconnectivity. The wavy details of the objects in the Illy Art Collection seem apparently orderly and neutral, until you get close and understand their meaning, connected to a very dangerous conception of the world.
