Elegant and linear, this splendid work wants to represent the archetypal nature of the apple and pear, purging them of all superfluous formal details and representing them in their purest. Printed on dropjet paper closed on the horizontal sides by two plastic profiles that allow it to be hung, La Mela e La Pera finds its place in children's rooms, in a kitchen, in a study. Designed by Enzo Mari in 1963 for Danese Milano.

The numbered screen printings of the Nature Series, designed by Enzo Mari and produced by Danese, propose to represent subjects of nature respecting the innate idea that one has by evoking them. The number one screen printing is the Apple, designed in 1963. The fruits are voluntarily reproduced in its original form, like a model, eliminating the superfluous and enhancing only its significant qualities. Enzo Mari's choice of eliminating the superfluous in favour of meaning is to be found in the author's intention of wanting to identify the observer as much as possible with the work, in order to create an emotional connection and representative. The result is an elementary image of the apple and the pear, with a full shape and the dominant black colour on a white background.
