Danese Milano Uno La Mela screen printing - 2° ed. y2000
Designer: Enzo Mari
Two-colour 'Uno, La Mela' screen printing made on 200g m2 dropjet paper belonging to the nature series. Proposed in a re-edition of the year 2000, this splendid work wants to depict the archetypal nature of the apple, purging it of all superfluous formal details and representing it in its purest form. Printed on dropjet paper closed on the horizontal sides by two plastic profiles that allow it to be hung, La Mela finds its place in children's rooms, in a kitchen, in a study. Designed by Enzo Mari for Danese Milano.
The numbered screen printings of the Nature Series, designed by Enzo Mari and produced by Danese, propose to represent subjects of nature respecting the innate idea that one has by evoking them. The number one screen printing is the Apple, designed in 1963 and revived in a new version in 2000. The fruit is voluntarily reproduced in its original form, like a model, eliminating the superfluous and enhancing only its significant qualities. Enzo Mari's choice of eliminating the superfluous in favour of meaning is to be found in the author's intention of wanting to identify the observer as much as possible with the work, in order to create an emotional connection and representative. The result is an elementary image of the apple, with a full shape and the dominant red colour on a white background. The subject thus becomes an icon, an apple that is La Mela.
